The school system includes two elementary schools, a junior high school and a senior high school that serves nearly 600 students. The Iosco Regional Educational Service Agency provides students with an alternative education outlet for students throughout the various school districts in Iosco County. Alpena Community College has a full service extension center in Oscoda at The Huron Shores Campus.

St. Joseph Health System, located in Tawas City, is made up of St. Joseph Hospital, primary care and specialty clinics located throughout the county in Tawas, Hale, and Oscoda. In the past two years, St. Joseph has built a comprehensive rehabilitation center; a new 46,000 square foot, state-of-the-art Surgery & Cardiovascular Center, and is building an addition to house its expanding radiology services.
